Next stop Bali via Subaraya

I caught a taxi back up to Banjar, which thankfully only took an hour this time, and waited for the 11 a.m. train to Surabaya.

Surabaya, is where Grace’s father (Leon – he is on the left of the photo) was born. According to his birth certificate. Unfortunately Leon passed away last year in Perth, where he spent most of his adult life and had two sons – Ross and Dim.

The train journey is super relaxing.  There are only locals around me and I like the feeling of being a foreigner.  The views from the train are amazing, watching people go about their daily lives in towns, villages and fields. It’s not an edited documentary, it’s right in front of my eyes.

Downtown Hotel for another bargain price

I arrive at my hotel by 6 p.m., another great deal at €24, including breakfast.

The hotel is fine, but I am sure someone has done some filtering the photos published online.

The Lonely Planet seems right, there is a working city.  The centre has a great vibe with local people out in the evening, enjoying themselves in cafes and restaurants.

This is going ok

I’m starting to get more comfortable with how things are going, though I realise I need to be more mindful of my daily spending. Costs have been higher than I’d like, mostly due to all the travel.

Chatting with Grace

I had a little chat with Grace. She still keeps my feet on the ground and equally living in the moment. I so wish she could have been here with me. She’d love it and I’d love us enjoying this experience together.
