Ready to go home
I’ve loved my trip around Java, Bali and the Maluku islands, though now I am ready to go home and be in my own place. I want some routine and structure again. Writing, preparing for B2 Dutch Exams and getting out on my bike.
I’ve never really found a place where I’ve been able to feel comfortable writing, whilst in Indonesia. I hope I’ll get this for a while in Spain. Also, unlike being at hope, I can’t put my various one pager plans, ‘to do’ lists etc on the wall. It is therefore difficult to keep focus.
I am certainty feeling the timing is not right to go to Thailand in mid November. But the flights are non-refundable.
Nothing from Sami
I’ve not heard anything from Sami concerning coming to the office and finding more about investigating Kesaulija family’s heritage. Though this is ok. My thinking is that there is a part 2 coming at some point in the future. Otherwise, do I hand the baton over to Rutger to investigate further? Maybe he is interested? Maybe not?
Sharing sweets with the children
I went to the main town on Saparua and bought loads of sweets and then shared them out with children to local to where the hotel is.
Lessons learnt from this Indonesia trip
Reflecting, after nearly two months on the road these are the things I learnt
- A week in one place is more than enough, I could have seen more of Indonesia
- Whilst, moving from place to place on day to day is too much. There is a balance to be found.
- As I’ve become more comfortable with Indonesia I’ve wanted to push myself further out of my comfort zone, moving from the luxury of Bali to something more rustic like Kai the Islands.
- I need western comforts from time to time. A nice modern bedroom and bathroom.
- I love socialising with local people, even though there is a language barrier.
- With these trips I need to find a way of contributing to the community.
I originally intended to be away during European Winters and Summers, though because of the timing of event this year it is working out that I will spend the European winter at home and the spring away. The summer? Who knows?
Got some help via Fivver to help post my blog updates
I am adopting the ethos set out in the book The 4-Hour Workweek by Tim Ferriss. I’ve reached out to someone on Fiverr, who is going to help with posting my blog content online. Helping create some bandwidth for me, so I can focus more on the quality of my blog writing, plus crack on with my book writing.
I’ve got a backlog over one month of thinkingofgrace.com posts and plus around 250 old posts for ourftdstory.com to post.
So far so good
I’ve got no regrets about stopping work. I don’t see any reason why things should change.
