Dear Grace,
Christmas in Elche
I had a wonderful time celebrating Christmas with Lara, Fernando, Fernando’s brother, and their mother. They were incredibly welcoming. You would have loved the food—it was a seafood feast: crab, gambas, lobster, clams, octopus, and squid. It was decadent! I’ll admit, I may have indulged a little too much on Christmas Day.
Everyone asks about the kids, and I’m always honest about where things stand. The truth is, the relationship feels non-existent. I wonder sometimes if it’s awful to admit that I don’t miss them. For me, it’s like a trauma—something I don’t feel ready to face.
Thanks to Lara, Fernando, and his family, I managed to have a Christmas without you. More than that, I had a genuinely enjoyable one, which I didn’t think was possible. I miss you though!
Meeting K
On December 22nd, I met K in La Nucia, about 40 minutes north of Alicante. From the first moment, she was lovely—warm and engaging. We went to a pizza restaurant, though eating wasn’t really our focus. We spent the evening completely immersed in getting to know each other.
It struck me how this meeting came almost 28 years to the day after you and I started dating. Out of all the dates I’ve been on, this one feels completely different. I hope you’re okay with me sharing this, as I still love you deeply and always will.
Since that day, K and I have been chatting daily on WhatsApp. There’s a sense that this could be the start of something meaningful, though it’s still early days.
Volunteering in Colombia
I’ve been exploring volunteer opportunities based on recommendations from the school. I found an organization called Fundación Las Golondrinas in Medellín, and I’ve filled out the application form. My preference is to work with children aged 6–18, and I’m genuinely excited about this opportunity. It feels like a chance to do something impactful.
Hair Removal Discovery
On a lighter note, I’ve discovered a cream for hair removal that’s incredibly affordable. The downside is that it can cause skin irritation and doesn’t remove hair from the root, so stubble appears over time. Still, I think it’s worth a try—it seems like an interesting find!
Grace, as I write this, I think of how much I miss you deeply.
With love,
David
